Toyota GR86 the Japanese maker’s most favorite agile sports car comes with a roar this year, replacing the weak engine from the previous model with a 2.4L 4-cylinder boxer engine.

Regarding transmission, the Toyota GR86 comes with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard which is the preferred way to go of course, and for those who are less road connected toyota offers an automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev Management and paddle shifters.

What changed in 2023 for the Toyota GR86?

Toyota introduced the all-new GR86 Special Edition in 2023 featuring Solar Shift orange paint, a cat-back performance exhaust with black chrome tips, and matte-black 18-inch wheels over the GR86 Premium model, interesting specs Am I right ? the thing is it’s only limited to just 860 units got to get it fast.

Toyota GR86 Models and Pricing

The GR86 comes in two models from Toyota, the base GR86 and the GR86 Premium, the base model starting MSRP at 27.900 $ while the Premium model starts at 30.500$ MSRP.

The Premium model offers extra specs than the GR86 base to mention 18-in. matte-black-painted alloy wheels with Michelin® Pilot® Sport 4 tires, Color-keyed duckbill rear spoiler, Blind Spot Detection (BSD)  and Rear Parking Sonar with Reverse Automatic Braking, and many more.

Both models come with the same powertrain of 2.4L 4-cylinder boxer engine and 6 speed manual or automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev.

GR86 Performance

Described as a purpose-built enthusiast, the GR86 takes performance to even greater heights thanks to several updates and upgrades.

A high level of engineering is involved, including its best feature the 2.4L boxer engine by Subaru delivering 228 hp and 184 lb-ft Peak torque @ 3700 rpm to either a 6-speed manual transmission achieving 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds or automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev Management hitting the 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

Comfort-wise, the GR86 suspension is a sport-tuned MacPherson strut design with new rebound springs as well as a double-wishbone style, multi-link suspension its forgiving enough to act as a daily driver.

The EPA reports that throaty engine to consume 20 city/27 hwy/22 combined mpg for the GR86 with 6-speed manual transmission and 21 city/31 hwy/25 combined mpg for the automatic transmission.

Also Offering Seating for four, Not that the rear seats are comfortable or spacious, but it’s nice to have.

As you would expect from a sports car, storage is not the topic non the less it has a cup holder in the middle and door bins on each side to hold those water bottles.

Pros

  • affordable sports car.
  • The steering feels alive.
  • Six-speed manual transmission is standard.

Cons

  • Cabin isolation is not that good.
  • The engine sounds weird on high revs.
  • Interior not practical Especially those rear seats.
